Concert review by Cees Van de Ven

About our concert at de Singer Rijkevorsel. Thank you Cees Van de Ven!

“Highly recommended is an understatement for a concert of the new CD from the trio Tim Finoulst feat. Bert Joris. It was a memorable and enjoyable concert of the Trio feat. Bert Joris. In his idiom, Tim Finoulst can undoubtedly be counted as one of the country’s best guitarists. His extraordinary technique and accuracy are at the service of his improvisational ideas and melodic compositions. Messages from dissenters fall into the “fake news” section. The fact that jazz icon Bert Joris joined the recently released CD “Tender Machine” and concerts with Finoulst’s trio says enough.

The concert in the Singer was highly appreciated. Two long sets with deliberate alternation of compositions and tempi ensured that an audience had a good time and generously demonstrated that. Compositions were often by Finoulst with the exception of “Philomène” by bass player Martijn Vanbuel and “Brother” by Daniel Jonkers. Balades, medium tempo, bluegrass or the “Harvest” in 15/8 time signature, it all sparkled effortlessly into the room. Teamwork and individual improvisations, especially by Bert Joris and Tim Finoulst, met the highest standards of the most demanding concert visitor.

Perhaps a scout of upcoming festivals such as Gent Jazz or Jazz Middelheim was incognito among the audience and draws its plan so that this formation will also amaze the audience there. Visitors to this delightful concert in the Singer can guarantee that.”

So cool that our new album “Tender Machine” is listed in the August edition of Sound of Summer by Jazzhalo: an annual series of tips for those looking for music that falls outside the summer hits category!

“ Very strong, especially due to the compositions and arrangements of the guitarist.”

“The CD of the big breakthrough?”

New album review of “Tender Machine”

Nice review by Dansende Beren!

“Tender Machine produced by Finoulst offers a blissful summer feel. It is a tender album, which also allows itself to be made with subtle choices (Frisell, Wheeler …) and thus leaves a very accessible and pleasant impression. Despite the apparent airiness, the Tender Machine album fully focuses on emotion (an elegant and still beautiful “Mouches Volantes”). Great album for jazz lovers, especially if they can also tolerate a portion of swing and groove.”
